Classification of Textile Yarn

Textile yarn may be definite as a linear assemblage of fibers or filaments formed into a continuous strand, having textile like characteristics. There are many Classification of Textile Yarn .The textile like characteristics referred to include good tensile strength & high quality. Yarns contribute significantly to fabric and product performance. Fabric producers must select from among a wide variety of yarns. Their selection may affect hand, appearance, drape, durability, comfort, and many other areas of performance. For example, yarns with high twist create the texture in true crepe apparel and furnishing fabrics. Yarns with low twist are napped in flannel fabrics and blankets. Yarn many enhance good fiber performance or partially compensate for poor fiber performance. The effectiveness of a finish may depend on the yarn choice. There are many different yarn types available.

Classification of Textile Yarn

  1. Yarn can be classified according to

Length of fiber e.g.

a) Spun yarn – Short staple.

                       — Long staple.

  b) Filament yarn – Mono filament.

                                 – Multi filament.

2) No of strand e.g.

a) Single yarn.

b) Folded of Double yarn.

c) Cable yarn.

3 Spinning system e.g.

a) Ring yarn.

b) Rotor yarn.

c) Worsted yarn

d) Woollen yarn etc.

  1. Types of fiber of fiber blend e.g.

Single Fiber: a) Cotton yarn, Jute yarn, Nylon yarn, polyester yarn, acrylic yarn. Multi-Fiber: b) P/C or T/C yarn, PV or TR etc.

5) Process sequence used e.g.

a) Carded yarn.

b) Combed yarn
